Winder Farms is Great

A few weeks ago I blogged about signing up for home deliveries with Winder Farms. We got our first delivery this past Monday. Although they came at 1 am and woke my husband up (I slept through it thanks to 7 beers), we have been pleased with the products.

If you are a fan of milk or eggs, you must sign up. Some of you may not know that my mom's family are farmers. I spent every summer and vacation on my grandparents' farm (which was a dairy farm until I was in high school). We were totally spoiled with great fruit and vegetables from their huge garden and lots of beef and milk. This milk is so much better tasting than the milk in the grocery store. Even though it's 1% fat, it tastes more like fresh, whole milk. The eggs are bigger, rounder and have better shells than the ones in the grocery store too.

The minimum order is really low so you won't be stuck ordering a lot of stuff every week. You do have to get a cooler, but the products are really good and at decent proces. If you end up signing up, make sure you said that I referred you because I get $30 off. Get to work, people!

Rhythm Nation 2008

Luis and I went to the Janet Jackson concert last Friday at Mandalay Bay. It was so awesome! She did every single song any fan could ever want. She started off with Pleasure Principle and Control all the way through to Rhythm Nation to end and Runaway for the encore.

Her show had everything you would want in a big Vegas-style show: large moving set, pyrotechnics, dancing, real singing (no lip syncing) and a live band. We had a great time.

Here are my tips for going to a concert in Mandalay Bay:

1. Buy the tickets at the desk in Mandalay Bay rather than Ticketmaster. The employees will help you show you the seat map and help you find a good seat. I asked them for help and they made a great suggestion in the middle price range. Plus, we got our tickets right away so I didn't have to worry about them getting lost in the mail. You'll also save a ton in handling and shipping charges.

2. You must, must, must get there several hours in advance. Parking is an absolute nightmare. The lot fills up fast with the regular casino activity, especially on weekends. I really suggest that you get there early and go to dinner. They also have a great little bookstore that is usually pretty empty if you want to browse. That way you don't have to be totally stressed out circling and looking for a space at the last minute. We learned the hard way after we missed the beginning of the Kathy Griffin show after we had to walk quite a ways from the Excalibur--2 casinos down from Mandalay Bay since it was so packed for a 9/10 pm Friday show!

Enjoy the shows at Mandalay Bay! I hope they are as good as Janet my Indiana girlfriend!

Anarchy + Fireworks = Awesome

Happy 4th of July, guys!

I think my favorite celebration is the all night unorganized anarchy going on at a field at the Moapa Indian reservation right now.

There is a gas station on the reservation that sells all sorts of illegal fireworks. Of course, the state cop surround the gas station ready to give you a ticket if you try to take them back to your house.

So...people to go the field and light them off. They have been there since yesterday in an totally unorganized chaos lighting off huge-ass, illegal fireworks. The poor Moapa fire engine calmly goes around putting out all the brush fires.

Evidently, it turns out to be an uninterrupted display of pretty nice fireworks for a really long time. So since there is no fireworks show on the strip and you don't want to go o one of the shows at one of the parks around the Valley, maybe next year you maybe you might want to check out the scene at the Moapa Reservation. There are absolutely no precautions or facilities--so be prepared. Don't burn the whole thing down, guys!

Lushies Unite!

I went to the grand opening of the LUSH store in Las Vegas on Saturday. It is in the fancy shops inside Mandalay Bay. I even have a VIP lanyard to show for it! They had a candy bar, martini station in a giant ice block and even Marilyn Monroe!

There was a long line of other supposed VIPs to get in, but it was worth it. I can finally get my hands on all the handmade, all natural body products I need. I used to order everything online, but since I really love their body butters, bath melts and soaps--I had to stop because they couldn't send them in the hot summer months. I also really like their bath bombs.

I got a bunch of goodies, including the Buffy the Backslide Slayer. The Buffy is an exfoliating body butter that has a light lavendar-lemon smell. It is so amazing! Usually exfoliators are horribly drying, but since this is made with both shea butter and cocoa butter, it really moisturizes. This will really help during summer-show-your-legs-season.

If you want some old fashioned razzle dazzle during your next trip to Las Vegas, then you should definitely visit the Liberace Museum that displays some absolutely fantabulous capes, sparkly outfits and jewelry. In all seriousness, this is a much better display than the Elvis-o-Rama that is scheduled to go away soon. See? You learn something awesome every day.
